Abstract

The purpose of this research is to (1) describe the learning difficulties faced by students when working on math word problems. (2) Efforts to overcome students' learning difficulties in solving math story problems. This research is a qualitative research. The research subjects were grade IV students at SDN 108 Banoa for the 2022/2023 academic year. Methods of tests, interviews and documentation are used as data collection methods. As a result, we found that (1) there were two types of learning difficulties faced by students when solving math word problems. One is conceptual understanding, for example a lack of understanding of the problem being instructed or a lack of interest, and the other difficulty is difficulty solving problems, for example inaccurate calculations and not re-checking work results. (2) Efforts to overcome learning difficulties in solving math word problems are more thorough, not in a hurry, double-checking work, and learning and practicing more in solving problems.
